About

Through the art of tattooing, we aim to build a brand and experience that constantly innovates, creates, evolves, and focuses on bettering itself and all who join the movement.

To consistently raise standards for the client and for the artists' environment and experience.

To create a culture with a shared belief in art, tattooing, positivity, creativity, mutual respect, humility, and togetherness.

How It Started

Aaron first started down this path years ago when he opened the studio in Colchester.

Working as a self-taught tattooist, he managed to grow the studio into something special, and himself into one of the top artists in his field. But after a few years, he felt it was time for a change. Aaron slowly started to reduce his hours at Monumental Colchester and set the business up so it could be run with little input from him. When this change was up and running, Aaron and his family moved over to Spain, enjoying the sun, sea, and lifestyle that went along with it. Aaron was still tattooing while living there, but not as much. Some of his clients from England even flew over to have sessions with him, but for the most part, he was a gentleman of leisure.

But after a while, Aaron grew restless...

The cogs were turning and ideas began to hatch and grow! Just over a year after moving out to Spain, Aaron and his family moved back to England. He had a clear idea in his head about Monumental and it was time to make it reality. The vision of turning Monumental into something bigger than just a business—Monumental the Brand—was born.

As a brand, the potential for Monumental is endless. Starting with Monumental Tattoo Studios, Aaron and the whole team are aiming to move the industry forward. Starting fresh in Colchester with a major rebrand and launching our second studio in Ipswich, Monumental's goal is to change the client and artist experience, continually improving the systems and the environment for everyone involved.

World-class artists and a relaxed, warm, friendly environment that you will want to come back to again and again are at the forefront of this evolution. We could tell you all the ways we are doing this, but we think you'd much rather come and experience it for yourself.

Two studios and counting. If you are ever near a Monumental studio, pop in for a chat and have a look around. You'll be glad you did.

Aaron Clarke

Founder & Artist

Aaron's journey into tattooing is the foundation on which Monumental Tattoo Academy was built.

A self-taught artist, Aaron was determined to build a career in tattooing despite being turned away by every studio he approached for an apprenticeship—even after offering to work for free. Rather than giving up, he committed himself to learning, developing his craft and proving that passion, resilience and relentless hard work could open doors that others had closed.

Today, Aaron is an accomplished black and grey realism artist, the owner of two successful tattoo studios, and the driving force behind Monumental Tattoo Academy.

His experience shapes the academy's philosophy: there are no shortcuts to becoming a great tattoo artist, but with dedication, the right guidance and a willingness to learn, extraordinary things are possible.

Aaron's goal isn't simply to teach people how to tattoo—it's to help aspiring artists build the skills, confidence and professional mindset needed to begin a successful career in the industry.

Yasmine Clarke

Founder & Manager

Yasmine is one of the driving forces behind Monumental Ink and has been part of the business since the very beginning.

While Aaron’s world is tattooing, Yasmine’s is everything that happens around it. From running the studios and supporting the team to managing the business, client experience and all the moving parts behind the scenes, she’s helped turn Monumental Ink into what it is today.

Over the years, Yasmine has played a huge part in growing Monumental from a tattoo studio into an established business with studios in Colchester and Ipswich, while always keeping the same thing at the heart of it — creating somewhere that both clients and artists genuinely want to be.

She’s organised, straight-talking and usually juggling about 47 things at once. She cares enormously about the standards at Monumental, the people who work there and making sure every client feels looked after from the moment they first get in touch.

If something needs organising, fixing, improving or completely overhauling, chances are Yasmine is already on it.
